What is it.

This youth-led panel focuses on sexual consent for children and youth. Service providers have indicated an increase of peer-to-peer abuse and victimization, noting a need to understand the experiences of children and youth today. This panel was moderated and presented by youth across Canada, with a focus on how CYACs and professionals working in the CYAC environment can best support children and youth to understand and talk about consent. The panel explores consent-related trends and issues, including the impact of rapidly changing and expanding nature of technology on discussions, understandings, and practices of consent.

How can it help me?

The experiences and challenges children and you face today require their direct input and perspectives. This panel is for anyone working with children and/or youth who want to better understand how they talk about, think about, and experience consent. Youth discuss how consent differs for children and youth online versus in-person, highlighting what they want professionals to know. This can be useful for investigators, therapeutic, and victims’ support service provides to adapt their practices based on these different contexts and experiences.

This resource can support multi-disciplinary partners who are curious about how to create safer spaces to have consent conversations with children and youth. Youth panelists discuss what the role of safe adults are in these conversations and how adults can best support them.
