What is it.

Encompass Support Services Society, the host organization of the Langley Child and Youth Advocacy Centre, partnered with a Cultural Advocate to explore the National Guidelines through a First Nations perspective. What began as an effort to adapt the guidelines to their local context, quickly evolved into a meaningful collaboration that deepened understanding and reshaped their approach. This report uncovers stories and individual experiences behind all ten National Guidelines. They share more about their journey and considerations for CYACs seeking to strengthen community relationships and culturally responsive practices.
How can it help me?
The National Guidelines for CYACs promote best practices for service delivery, programs, and organizational policies across Canada. Yet, these guidelines were developed within Western systems and do not fully reflect all perspectives. CYACs have a responsibility to ensure their work is trauma-informed, culturally safe, and responsive for the children, youth, and families they serve. It is necessary for CYACs to reflect on how the guidelines show up in their daily practice and how they can strengthen their approach to better support First Nations and Indigenous communities served.
