What is it.
Repeated, unsubstantiated reports of child abuse and neglect between parents involved in separation or custody disputes are commonly encountered by CYACS and their multidisciplinary team members across Canada. These cases present a complex challenge and place children and youth at risk for systemic and emotional harms. This practice framework was co-developed by CYACs across Canada and informed by research evidence, multidisciplinary expertise, and practice knowledge for CYACs and their multidisciplinary team members to comprehensively assess and respond to these cases.
How can it help me?
This practice framework is designed to understand existing evidence, examine how these cases present within CYACs, and identify opportunities to strengthen multidisciplinary responses and reduce recurring reports. CYACs can use the framework to help strengthen multidisciplinary decision-making, improve consistency across partners, reduce unnecessary repeat investigations, identify opportunities for support beyond investigative activities, and encourage broader systems improvement. Adapt this framework to fit the local context and support a collaborative and comprehensive response for children and families involved in these complex cases in your communities.
