What is it.

This webinar explores the role of facility dogs in CYACs and how they can provide emotional support to children and youth. Facility dogs are specially trained to offer comfort, assist with emotional regulation, and help create a sense of security. This can be especially useful during high-stress situations such as forensic interviews or court testimony.

Presenters Dr. Isabelle Daignault and Roxane Bélanger discuss how facility dogs can support children and address operational challenges when integrating them effectively into CYAC settings.

How can it help me?

CYACs are committed to delivering trauma-informed care to children and youth. Incorporating facility dogs into CYAC services can offer several benefits, especially helping children feel safe and supported during therapy, forensic interviews, and court appearances. However, there are practical considerations, such as operational challenges and research limitations that when deciding if a facility dog would be a suitable and sustainable addition to a multidisciplinary team.
