What is it.
Forensic interviewing with children is complex and requires specialized knowledge. Interviewers often struggle to follow best practices due to limited training, and lack of feedback. Addressing these barriers is essential to maintain the integrity of the interview and protect the well-being of the child. This study examined the quality and structure of peer feedback and whether training length influenced feedback effectiveness. Police officers from different jurisdictions completed child forensic interview training and were asked to review a forensic interview transcript, providing feedback on the interviewer’s adherence to best practices. The authors examined the quality of peer feedback following training with expert ratings.
How can it help me?
Structured peer feedback improves interviewers’ skills, strengthens their competence, and reinforces confidence in their practice. By providing clear, specific, and consistent guidance, feedback helps interviewers reduce errors and adhere more closely with best practice. For CYACs, embedding regular feedback from experts or trained peers directly strengthens the quality and integrity of interviews.
