What is it.

This panel topic was child sexual abuse materials (CSAM). This is a growing global concern. 

The panel reviews some relevant research on the topic of CSAM. Panelists discussed working with victims and families throughout the process, with specific discussions about forensic interviewing in CSAM cases. The panel explored  practical concerns and strategies for investigations, including preparing for the young person’s visit to a CYAC and thinking through when, how, and if images should be shared as part of the investigation.

How can it help me?

CYACs are seeing an increase in cases involving CSAM and need cohesive, robust, response strategies. Through collaborative planning and intervention, can provide a high quality, and trauma-informed response for victims throughout their journeys at a CYAC, from investigations to therapeutic and victims supports. This panel provides insight from a forensic interviewing expert on considerations for interviewing victims about their abuse when it involves technology, imagery, and/or videos. It presented considerations for working with victims and their families. 

This panel can help support various multidisciplinary partners to think about how they can best collaborate with other team members to collaboratively address CSAM and develop plans to provide comprehensive care, support, and intervention for these cases.
