What is it.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) refers to visual depictions, including photographs, films, videos, or other visual representations, of sexually explicit conduct involving children under the age of 18 (Canadian Centre for Child Protection, 2018). This practice brief identified the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to addressing CSAM and outlined practical strategies for working with victims of CSAM.
How can it help me?
Since 2020, the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s (C3P) Cybertip.ca has seen a 120% increase in CSAM reports. CYACs have seen an increase in cases with an online or technology-related element. This practice brief can support CYACs and multidisciplinary partners to better understand the prevalence of CSAM, who is impacted, and what is known about perpetrators. It provided concrete strategies for working with victims of CSAM as well as, therapeutic providers, victim services, and law enforcement.
Additionally, resources are available to support professionals working directly with children and youth who have been victimized.
