Multidisciplinary Response

The CYAC includes an integrated MDT from the core disciplines and agencies involved in the case.

Activities

The multidisciplinary response is supported through many of the foundational enablers. CYAC activities or elements that specifically contribute to the coordination of the CYAC response may include:

  • Collaborative triage by all MDT partners
  • MDT coordinates their involvement in a case
  • Case management process implemented and overseen by MDT coordinator/facilitator
  • MDT is engaged in regular debriefing and case review

For more detail on the multidisciplinary response in CYACs, see the guideline and key components.

CYAC Guidelines

Outputs

The activities and elements at your CYAC will determine what outputs you track related to the multidisciplinary response. Example outputs are:

  • # of cases triaged
  • # of case coordination and review meetings
  • Dedicated MDT coordinator/facilitator

Child and youth outcomes

The multidisciplinary response is key to the CYAC model providing a multi-system response to child abuse. Ways to know how the multidisciplinary response elements and activities happening at the CYAC include:

  • Services are received in a timely manner
  • MDT members are engaged in collaborative service delivery
  • Children, youth, and caregivers are aware of the MDT members and roles and who to ask questions to
  • MDT and CYAC staff appropriately share information for trauma-informed, collaborative care
  • Children and youth see as many providers as reasonable during each CYAC visit

Safety

  • Medical evaluations are conducted in a timely manner
  • Cases are triaged; the most urgent cases are prioritized
  • Medical findings are shared and used by MDT partners for case management
  • Caregivers feel equipped to support the child/youth after their medical examination

Justice

  • Children and youth feel empowered to ask questions
  • Children, youth, and caregivers are informed and understand the reason behind medical evaluation decisions
  • Children, youth, and caregivers understand how medical examination evidence may be used throughout investigation and legal processes

Healing

  • Children and youth feel validated and supported through the examination processes
