Kindex

Strengthens CYACs across Canada

Kindex Research and Knowledge Centre generates evidence and mobilizes knowledge that informs policy, improves practice, and strengthens outcomes for children, youth and their families who have experienced abuse and neglect.

With over 40 CYACs across Canada, there was a tremendous opportunity to increase collaboration and impact amongst CYACs, provincially and nationally. Rooted in our shared goals, and commitment to innovation, partnership, and excellence, CYAC practitioners and academics joined forces to establish Kindex.

About CYACs

An integrated response to child abuse and neglect

Experiences of child abuse and neglect vary in severity, frequency, and the type of investigation needed. This can be overwhelming for children and their families to navigate. CYACs are recognized as the leading model for responding to child abuse and neglect because they facilitate a multidisciplinary response to child abuse and neglect. The heart of CYACs is to integrate system partners and professionals with expertise in law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical, and victim advocacy to wrap around the child or youth. This approach ensures that children, youth and their families are not left to navigate multiple systems alone.

Driving change through research and knowledge

Together, we equip CYAC leaders, practitioners, and policymakers to make evidence-informed decisions to support Canadian children, youth, and their families who have experienced abuse and neglect.

We generate evidence

We produce rigorous, context-specific research and knowledge that addresses the unique challenges faced by CYACs across Canada. This evidence guides the development of effective interventions, policies, and programs for CYACs.
